The pressure on high officials of the Liberal Party (LP) continues, the party announced today.
"On the eve of the parliamentary elections themselves, and after it was announced that she was a candidate for LP deputy, Jelena Marković, a member of the LP Presidency, was targeted by the prosecution in Cetinje because of the events at the Belvedere. Two years after the demonstrations at the Belvedere, the prosecution remembered that at this moment , after Marković announced that she was a candidate for deputy, and immediately after she filed an appeal to the Constitutional Court against the Statute of the Municipality of Nikšić and the Municipality of Žabljak in order to protect the constitutionality of the civil and secular state. that Marković is charged with the criminal offense of criminal association for the purpose of committing a criminal offense, which is a shameful accusation for a recognized public official of the opposition party, a civic activist and a respectable citizen", it is emphasized in LP announcement published on their website.
They added that they have been warning "for years about the pressures suffered by prominent officials and activists of the opposition, which often come from the level of government and state power."
"We wonder if there is any institution in Montenegro, after a three-year struggle, which is ready to protect the human and civil rights of those who do not think like the ruling majority and who dare to say so publicly?", the LP statement concludes.
