The President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Danijela Đurović, announced that it is unacceptable that even after 19 years, it is not known who ordered the murder of the editor-in-chief of the daily "Dan" Duško Jovanović, and that it represents a major obstacle to the construction of the rule of law in Montenegro.
"As a man who considered the search for the truth his duty, Duško Jovanović was the embodiment of courage, consistency and persistence, and the deeds he left behind remind us that we must continue to fight for justice in this and all other cases of attacks on journalists." , said the head of the parliament.
She said that there are no more excuses and that it is necessary to create the conditions for the creation of independent and professional institutions that will provide an answer to the question that "has been plaguing Montenegro for 19 years".
"The path to the truth is not easy, but it is our obligation to Duško, his family and society as a whole to show that no one can be stronger than the state," said Đurović.
She also said that there will be no media freedom in Montenegro until the murder of Jovanović is completely solved.
"I am sure that in the time ahead, free and independent individuals will contribute to building strong, impartial and independent institutions, which will also help us to achieve justice in this case, which we desperately need," the statement concludes.
