Bosniak: Sanction vandalism according to the law, the words spoken by the fans evoke painful memories

Mass public insult and humiliation of any nation or ethnic group, through chanting and hate speech, can never lead such a mass to prosperity, nor can a society that does not recognize the danger of this phenomenon in time and find an adequate strategy to combat it, she said. Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Branka Bošnjak.

As reported by the Assembly, she warned that fan groups in recent decades increasingly offer ultra-right, extremist, decadent messages, adding that the public is shocked by this.

"And these lost young men, perhaps unaware of the depravity of their own vandalism, drawn by the psychology of the pack and the desire to belong somewhere, obviously do not understand the danger of fueling inter-national hatred, as well as extremism directed at minority religious groups, evoking the deep pain they carry in their collectivity, and on whose wounds salt should not be poured," added Bošnjak.

The area of ​​the Western Balkans, including Montenegro, is, as she believes, burdened by the legacy of war events.

"Especially in the late 90s, and this is best evidenced by the existence of radicalized groups of young people, who abuse sports events and use them as a reason to destabilize the public, through precisely those unhealed traumas and weaknesses of society, causing general fear and insecurity," explained Bonjak.

According to her opinion, the spoken words evoke painful memories of the events of the destruction of a nation.

"There are words that must no longer be uttered, repeated, and which we had the opportunity to hear in fan shame and terror (monstrous slogans), and which not only encourage division of the current political and social moment, but also evoke painful memories of the events", said the Bosniak.

That is why, as he says, vandalism should be sanctioned according to the law.

"We must send a message that a multi-ethnic and multi-religious, harmonious Montenegro will be a basic value on our further path of progress, and violence, speech and acts of hatred will be left to legal regulations and all available means in order to preserve peace and stability," concluded Bošnjak.
