Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović said that, after the parliamentary elections, he expects the formation of a pro-European parliament and government that will continue the process of democratization in Montenegro.

As announced by the President's Information Service, Milatović received representatives of the European Parliament from Greece and Poland, Nikos Papandreou, Rišard Čarnecki and Roza Tun.

He assessed that Montenegro faces great challenges, but that it is moving in the right direction.

"Montenegro is a leader among the candidate countries, we have no open issues with our neighbors and our goal is to become a member state in the next five years," said Milatović.

He said that he is optimistic that at this moment there is a serious chance for Montenegro to speed up the process.

"And we will use it, for which we need the support of the European Parliament and other institutions of the European Union (EU). We want direct dialogue and communication with the parliament, in order to ensure that support", added Milatović.

He announced a more active promotion of the state in the countries of the European Union and emphasized that it is important for the EU to maintain the principle of regatta in its enlargement policy.

"Greater visibility and communication with European institutions are high on the list of our priorities," said Milatović.

He assessed that with his visit to Brussels in the first week of his mandate, he showed Montenegro's commitment to European values, and that, through meetings with high-ranking EU officials and numerous statesmen at the Summit of the European Political Community in Moldova, he expressed a clear political will to speed up reforms.

"We want the new Montenegro to be well understood and accepted in Brussels," said Milatović.
