The United Kingdom (UK) will continue to support the acceleration of the Euro-Atlantic path of Montenegro, British Ambassador Karen Maddox said, stating that she expects that with the constitution of a new convocation of Parliament and a new Government, there will be progress in the creation of reforms in the country.
As announced by the Assembly, the President of the Parliament Danijela Đurović received Maddox today for a farewell visit.
Maddox thanked Đurović for the reception and said that it was a pleasure for her to be the representative of the UK in Montenegro.
She emphasized the cooperation with the Parliament of Montenegro, which was always good and fruitful and resulted in concrete activities that contributed to the improvement of relations between the two countries.
"Maddox expressed the expectation that with the constitution of the new convocation of the Parliament and the new Government, there will be progress in the creation of reforms in our country and that, above all, the Euro-Atlantic path of Montenegro will be accelerated, for which the UK will continue to provide wholehearted support", it is stated in announcement.
Đurović thanked Madox for his devoted and dedicated work on improving Montenegrin-British interstate ties.
She pointed out that during Madox's mandate, numerous initiatives were implemented in various fields, especially in the field of defense, cooperation of police and customs services in the fight against organized crime and corruption, as well as improvement of cyber capacity and resilience.
"We especially appreciate that London continues to support our European path regardless of the exit from the European Union, and we are encouraged by the fact that the British side is present and committed to the region," said Đurović.
As she said, this is also reflected in the engagement of the British Prime Minister's special envoy for the Western Balkans, Stuart Peach, and his regular dialogue with Montenegrin officials.
She especially thanked Maddox for the attention she paid to issues of gender equality and improving the position of women in Montenegro, and pointed out that her contribution in that domain was valuable.
