Political actors have no sense of reality if they don't see how endangered critical thought is in Montenegro, said the spokesman of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Miloš Nikolić.
Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović stated on Twitter "that the former President of Montenegro nostalgically reminded us of the time of "freedom of opinion and publicly expressed criticism" during his multi-decade autocratic rule".
"If Milatović and the other indirect and direct actors of the 'August XNUMX refresh' do not see how these three years, since they came to positions on the wings of the apostolic government, have been disastrous for critical thought and public speech in Montenegro, then they are intoxicated by the government, without a realistic perception of what is happening around them," said Nikolić.
He said that they were not surprised "that Milatović's standards of democracy and autocracy were twisted".
Nikolić said that nothing better can be expected from someone who, as he stated, was fascinated by the politics of Slobodan Milošević and his Montenegrin servants, and maintained such an attitude even in his mature years.
"We remind you that that regime, whose followers Milatović speaks of with pathos and nostalgia, killed dissenters, threw them in lime, and liquidated journalists," the announcement says.
According to Nikolić, Milatović has clearly lost his political compass and is not doing well in the role that has fallen to him.
He said that Milatović slanders his own country in the European Parliament and falsifies economic parameters in order to denigrate the political parties that won the restoration of independence, made Montenegro a member of NATO and turned the country towards Europe.
"During the break, while he is probably practicing steps for some new dance where he doesn't belong, we advise him to perform the position he was elected to with dignity, and if he doesn't know what to say, it's better to remain silent than to occasionally push for the media space on the public stage, even if in a non-interfering way as he did today," the statement said.
