The Center for Civic Education (CGO) announced that on Sunday, August 27, 30 days will expire from the constitution of the new convocation of the Parliament of Montenegro. They also added that the Law on Prevention of Corruption stipulates the obligation of a public official, who accepts to perform another function while performing a public function, to resign from one of those two functions.
"The deadline for this is 30 days from the beginning of the performance of the second function," the announcement of the CGE states.
According to publicly available information, as they said, none of the MPs whose mandates have been verified, and not a small number of them who already hold public positions, have done so so far, which, according to them, are entering the zone of violation of the law.
"This applies both to the prime minister and to a number of ministers in the Government of Montenegro, presidents of municipalities, but also directors of public companies. They are obliged to submit their resignations from one of their current or parliamentary positions no later than Sunday by the end of the day." , the announcement states.
Resigning from one of those positions, as the CGO said, is not only a legal obligation, but also a mechanism to prevent conflicts of interest that may exist here.
"By ignoring this obligation, the separation of the legislative and executive powers prescribed by the Constitution, the principle of incompatibility of functions, and the distrust of citizens in the government and the institutions of the system are further strengthened," added the statement of the CGE.
