The Prime Minister, Dritan Abazović, said at the Bled Strategic Forum that if the postponement of the enlargement continues, the appearance of Euroscepticism is possible, the Cabinet of the Prime Minister announced.
"Perhaps the countries in this area will no longer have so much enthusiasm to join the European Union," said Abazović.
He added that our country has no problems with its neighbors and is finally delivering results in the fight against corruption and organized crime.
"It may be sensitive, but sometimes the question really arises, do the EU leaders know what they want? We do. Montenegro wants to be part of the EU," he said at the forum called "Solidarity for the Global Future".
As he said, if you want to go for EU enlargement, which is a two-way street and is to the mutual benefit of both the EU and the Western Balkans, then some things must change.
"Montenegro is a Euro-optimistic country, a place of sun and fun and an excellent opportunity for the expansion of the European Union (EU), he said.
This is a question of stability, economic development and, as he added, life in a globalized world, especially considering the situation in Ukraine.
He said that Montenegro has a problem of labor shortage.
"Our people are integrated into the EU. They work there and we fail here. How is it possible that they are desirable in the EU, but our countries are not? It's simple, if we wait to enter the EU for them to return, the EU will never will not open its doors. It is necessary not to look at the Balkans as a crisis and conflict area, but as an area that can be a new opportunity for the development of the European Union," said Abazović.
He added that in the process of joining the EU, a fair attitude towards candidate countries is important.
"The rules must be known. I emphasize that Montenegro is not selfish when it comes to the accession process and we support the entry of every country into the EU, as well as Ukraine. However, I think it is not wise to wait for a conflict to occur in the Balkans, and then is going to expand. We need to think smart and allow those countries that are ready or that will be ready in the foreseeable future to enter on time," said Abazaović.
The countries of the Western Balkans are, as he said, ok.
In good company, we can be very successful, he said and added "just don't leave us alone".
