Finance Minister Aleksandar Damjanović said, at a meeting with the acting president of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Danijel Živković, that he accepts the objection that the Government can postpone the population census by decree, but that it will not be his proposal that will be sent to the Government.
This was announced by DPS, on whose initiative the meeting in the finance department was held.
Živković pointed out that the current environment is not adequate for holding the census, and that the DPS expects the census to be postponed for a period in which full conditions will be created for the maintenance and control of the census process.
"Živković reiterated that there are objective circumstances that have led to this attitude, which primarily concern the lack of political stability, the unknowns surrounding the formation of the new 44th Government, the ambiguity surrounding the demarcation between individual municipalities, the absence of measurable control criteria, as well as the fact that at the head of the census commissions are the presidents of the municipalities and that the current president of the Municipality of Budva is in custody," DPS announced.
Also, Živković demanded full control of the census by political parties, civil society and international organizations.
"Minister Damjanović pointed out that he accepts the objection that the Government can postpone the census by decree, but that it will not be his proposal that will be sent to the Government. Damjanović pointed out that he understood a certain number of objections from the Democratic Party of Socialists and expressed his willingness to continue the talks in the coming period ", the announcement concludes.
The meeting was also attended by DPS vice-presidents Jevto Eraković and Abaz Dizdarević, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Finance and Monstat.
