The Savnica committee of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) announced that in this town there are not even minimum conditions for the census to be held, which can be seen in the example of the local elections, which, they say, were sabotaged and meaningless.
"The fact that the local elections in Šavnik have not been completed even after nine voting attempts indicate an abnormal socio-political environment both in our municipality and in the whole of Montenegro," reads the announcement of DPS Šavnik.
In this party, they assess that the Montenegrin public in the past period saw a scene of legal and physical violence, obstruction, destruction, prevention of voting, destruction of voting documents and finally complete obstruction of the electoral process.
"What is worse than all of the above, even after our numerous calls and appeals to the Government, which has been exercising power in a technical mandate for more than a year, and the multitude of criminal charges that we have filed against the actors themselves, none of the competent state authorities has deigned to seek a solution in order to get out of this situation. Local elections in our town were completely rendered meaningless by freak sabotages, so the very thought that the upcoming population census should be held in Šavnik indicates that it is completely pointless to talk about it," they said.
They believe that the basic legal and technical prerequisites for holding the census in Montenegro have not been met, and they state that, if you look at the environment in which the people of Šavnik live, "only one thing can be clearly concluded - there are not even minimum conditions for this process to take place in Šavnik". .
"Therefore, we once again call on the Government of Montenegro, the Ministry of Finance and Monstat, as the competent state bodies, to postpone the entire process until the conditions for its normal and unhindered maintenance are met," the announcement concludes.
