Petko Bakić will be a candidate for the president of the Municipality of Kolašin, according to unofficial interviewees of Vijesti.
Bakić is the current president of the Municipal Board (MOB) of Democratic Montenegro, and he will replace his party colleague Vladimir Martinović, the newly elected Minister of Tourism, Ecology and Sustainable Development and Development of the North, as the head of that municipality in the north of the country.
Bakić has been the head of the local Democrats' committee since 2016, is a mechanical technician, and is employed in the Kolašin Protection and Rescue Service.
According to information from Vijesti, he was proposed for the new position at a meeting of representatives of the parties that make up the government in Kolašin.
The Municipal Committee of the Democrats did not respond to Vijesti's repeated questions about Martinović's successor.
According to unofficial information, the members of the Municipal Board were unanimous that Bakić should be the new President of the Municipality.
Representatives of other parties, which are part of the ruling majority in Kolasin, did not want to comment on the content of the meeting with the Democrats on Monday evening.
Allegedly, that party will officially announce its candidate for Martinović's successor today, after the mayor resigns.
Representatives of the ruling majority in Kolasin recently announced that after the departure of Martinović, any candidate proposed by the Democrats, as the party with the most councilors in the local parliament, will be supported. They then announced that they had decided that all other government structures would remain the same, "so that the city would continue to function in the direction of development as one of the largest tourist destinations in the country."
The ruling majority consists of nine councilors from Democrats and United, four councilors from DF, three each from PES and SNP and one from the list of GP URA and free citizens.
In the opposition benches are Zajedno gradimo Kolašin (DPS, SDP, SD and non-party figures) and the Group of Voters (GB) Momčilo Vukčević.
According to the Law on Local Self-Government, in case of termination of the mandate of the president of the municipality, the election of a new one is done within 30 days at the latest.
