The government will do everything in order to fulfill its obligations as soon as possible and prepare Montenegro for membership in the European Union, said the Minister of European Affairs. Maida Gorcevic, which received today the ambassador of Italy in Montenegro To Andrea Marcelo.
The announcement states that the interlocutors discussed Montenegro's progress in approaching the EU, as well as further plans and activities that the Ministry and the Government will undertake after receiving the European Commission's Report for Montenegro.
Gorčević, as announced, conveyed her gratitude to the Government of Italy for continuous support in the implementation of reforms, especially in the area of the rule of law, and introduced the ambassador to the Ministry's plans aimed at accelerating the implementation of reforms that "will contribute to faster and better European integration of society".
"The citizens of Montenegro expect concrete results from us. They want to feel the effects of the reforms we are implementing within the European integration process - namely European standards and a better quality of life," said the minister.
She said that the negotiation process is taking a long time and that the government will do everything in order to "fulfill the assumed obligations and prepare the country for membership" as soon as possible. In that part, she pointed out that the special focus will be on chapters 23 and 24 and the unblocking of institutions that are of key importance for delivering results.
Gorčević expressed her satisfaction with the "friendly and meaningful relations" between the two countries, which, she said, are confirmed through cooperation in a large number of areas of mutual interest.
Ambassador Marcela, as announced, wished the new Government and the Ministry of European Affairs successful work and pointed out that the Government of Italy will continue to provide strong political and expert support to the process of accession of Montenegro to the EU.
She pointed out the importance of numerous projects and initiatives that contribute to the implementation of reforms and encourage faster integration of the region into the EU.
The interlocutors also exchanged opinions on bilateral cooperation between the two countries, and the possibilities for its improvement in the coming period.
