The Government of Montenegro dismissed the Inspector General of the National Security Agency (ANB) Artan Kurti today, it was confirmed to "Vijesta" unofficially from the executive branch.
According to the same information, all members of the Government at today's session voted for his dismissal.
The government has not yet appointed a new general director of ANB.
It was already known on the first day of the mandate of the new executive that Kurti would most likely be the first government official in the security sector to be dismissed.
Prime Minister Milojko Spajić announced this option to ANB director Boris Milić the day after he assumed the position of head of government.
The appointment of Kurti in the summer of 2022 was followed by numerous accusations between Dritan Abazović and Raško Konjević (then Deputy Prime Minister), who argued that due to two convictions from 2004 and 2009, he could not establish a working relationship at the Agency.
After his appointment, Kurti said in a statement to "Vijesta" that he is "an unconvicted person".
"I understand the context of the question and the interest of the public, everything related to the conviction of any citizen can be checked with the competent authority - the Ministry of Justice, if they provide you with that information. I can tell you briefly - that I am an unconvicted person", Kurti said then .
Not long after his appointment in the first ANB assessment, while the secret service was managed by Savo Kentera in an acting capacity, Kurti was not given access to classified information. The green light for access to classified data was given a month after the Government dismissed Kentera in October 2022.
During his work at the Agency, Kurti made about thirty reports, which he submitted to the director and the Government in the annual reports.
In part of the media, he was labeled as a man trusted by the former prime minister, who wanted to establish control over the work of the National Security Agency through him.
Before the arrival of Artan Kurti as General Director of ANB, this function was almost protocol, and the public never received even basic data on the number of checks and reports.
