Montenegro's European path is threatened, said the general secretary of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Aleksandar Bogdanović, who participated in the Congress of the Party of European Socialists in Malaga.
The DPS announced that the Congress, which brought together numerous leaders and representatives of left-wing parties from Europe, was an opportunity to consider solutions and provide answers to the numerous challenges that Europe is facing and to define the guidelines for the further action of European socialists to meet the upcoming European elections.
As they stated, during the Congress, Bogdanović had meetings with the vice-presidents of the Party of European Socialists, Tanja Fajon, who is also the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Slovenia, and Radmila Sekerinska.
DPS said that Bogdanović also met with the leader of SDP Iceland, Kristrun Frostadottir.
As they said, during the meetings, Bogdanović informed the interlocutors about the current events in Montenegro, with special reference to the new ruling structure that should lead the process of European integration.
The DPS stated that Bogdanović informed the interlocutors "about the complete standstill of Montenegro in that process in the past three years, but also about the fact that part of the new parliamentary majority is an anti-European and pro-Russian right-wing structure", which met with their special interest.
"For this reason, we express particular fear for Montenegro's further European path, especially considering that the parliament, under the leadership of that structure, has already established practices that are scandalous and unprecedented in the history of multi-partyism in Montenegro," said Bogdanović.
The DPS said that during separate meetings, the interlocutors expressed their full support to that party in its perseverance in defending national interests and fulfilling obligations stemming from the European agenda.
"On the sidelines of the Congress, Bogdanović also met with the leaders of the left-wing parties, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and SDP President and Danish Prime Minister Meta Frederiksen," the announcement states.
