During the mandate of the 44th Government, Montenegro will be even more firmly established on the Euro-Atlantic path, said Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Internal Policy, European and Foreign Affairs Aleksa Bečić, adding that the state authorities show commitment to preserving justice, order and security in the country.
Bečić, as announced by his cabinet, met with the Italian ambassador to Montenegro, Andrea Marcela.
Bečić's cabinet said that the meeting represents another important step in strengthening the ties between Montenegro and Italy, as well as in confirming the common European and Euro-Atlantic path.
"Bečić pointed out that during the mandate of this Government, Montenegro will be even more firmly established on its Euro-Atlantic path, and Marcela expressed her satisfaction with such commitment of Montenegro," the announcement says.
It is reported that Marcela, in connection with the upcoming population census, praised the Government's efforts to achieve inclusion and transparency in that process, taking into account the concerns of the opposition, minorities and civil society.
"Her support for open dialogue and cooperation between the Government and all social segments, as well as her position on the importance of reaching agreement on key issues, confirm her sincere desire for stability, strengthening of institutions and progress of Montenegro," the statement added.
Bečić's cabinet said that Marcela emphasized Italy's long-standing support for the expansion of the European Union (EU).
She said that Montenegro is still first on the list of candidate countries for membership.
"Her promises about specific expert assistance to Montenegro on the way to EU integration reflect the depth and strength of our partnership," the announcement states.
Bečić thanked Italy for its support and emphasized that Montenegro has a historic and generational chance to be the first next member of the EU.
He pointed out that the goals to be pursued and the values on which Montenegro is built must be above party interests, as well as that wisdom in acting is crucial for the well-being of all citizens of Montenegro.
During the conversation, Bečić particularly emphasized the progress that the new government achieved in a short period of time, despite the challenges inherited from the previous period.
As reported, he cited the example of the election of the seventh judge of the Constitutional Court, which contributed to the final functionality of the highest judicial instance in Montenegro, but also a series of steps that go in the direction of calming tensions and socio-political stabilization of circumstances.
"State bodies show tireless commitment to preserving justice, order and security in our country," said Bečić.
He said that the numerous arrests and actions that followed in the previous days testify to the determination and efficiency of the judicial authorities and security services.
