Members of the Committee for Economy, Budget and Finance today unanimously supported the amendments to the Law on the Census with Amendments.

Previously, that regulation, which was proposed in order to postpone the census, was supported by the Legislative Committee.

An integral part of the Proposal became the amendment of the deputy of the Europe Now Movement, Vasilija Čarapić, which proposes the deletion of articles that determine the date of the population census.

At the session of the Legislative Committee, Čarapić said that erasing the date and returning it to the Government Decree as it was initially defined is a better solution than "nailing" the date into the law.

This, he said, served as a basis for Prime Minister Milojko Spajić to sign an agreement on the census with opposition parties and councils of national minorities.

Deputy of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Nikola Rakočević said that they welcome the amendment deleting the date of the census.

"The census can be held before November 30 as far as we are concerned, but only if the conditions we have committed to are met," said Rakočević at the session of the Committee for Economy.

He added that if the conditions are not met, he will have to ask for the postponement of the census in order to find a more rational date for its holding.

Dejan Đurović from New Serbian Democracy said that national, linguistic and national issues will not solve the country's development strategy.

"The crucial issue is the birth rate, and we have had a negative birth rate for the last three years. When we see that, we will ask whether these three issues are important in relation to the rest. For me, they are, because it was not a realistically presented situation before," said Đurović.

He said that no one should put pressure on anyone to declare themselves nationally, religiously or linguistically, as the boss tells them.

"I think it's time to remove those 'boycott' billboards," he said, addressing the DPS MPs who protested saying that there were other billboards.

Đurović invited them to visit the center of Podgorica and see which billboards have the most.
