Cooperation between the Government and the Council of Europe (CoE) is important on the way to Montenegro's membership in the European Union (EU), it was said at the meeting of the Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević and the head of the Program Office of the Council of Europe (CoE) in Podgorica, Lejla Dervišagić.
The Ministry of European Affairs (MEP) announced that at the meeting it was assessed that the Government and the Office of the Council of Ministers noted excellent cooperation in the implementation of projects and activities aimed at further democratization and development of society.
"Continued support for SE represents an important contribution on the way to Montenegro's membership in the EU," says the announcement.
It is stated that Gorčević and Dervišagić discussed the results and the continuation of the implementation of several projects, which are implemented within the framework of the joint program for cooperation between the European Union and the Council of Europe for the Western Balkans and Turkey.
Gorčević thanked the SE Office for the support they provide to Montenegro in fulfilling reform agendas in the areas of human rights, rule of law and democracy and harmonization with European standards, which, as she said, is a priority in the EU enlargement process.
"Cooperation with SE is indispensable in reforms, especially in the area of the rule of law and the implementation of reform processes in this area," said Gorčević.
As she said, Montenegro will continue to work dedicatedly on the improvement and implementation of relevant policies, which, respecting the values and standards of human rights and democracy, contribute to the rule of law.
Dervišagić pointed out the importance of implementing projects related to the strengthening of accountability in the judicial system, the fight against economic crime in Montenegro, quality education for all and the protection of freedom of expression and freedom of the media.
She said that the projects dealing with the promotion of good governance and the empowerment of Roma at the local level, as well as the Project to strengthen the capacity of the authorities in the Western Balkans and Turkey for the search, seizure and confiscation of income obtained from online crime, prevention of money laundering on the Internet and providing electronic evidence.
According to Dervišagić, SE will continue to support Montenegro, especially in the area of human rights.
"Use all the experience and knowledge of SE experts from the region and EU member states in order to achieve the best and fastest progress on the way to the Union", said Dervišagić.
