The process of European integration of Montenegro, through the implementation of reforms and adequate diplomatic activity, can be completed during the mandate of the 44th Government, assessed the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Filip Ivanović.
Ivanović, at the New Year's reception for the diplomatic corps in Villa Gorica, said that Montenegro is an uncompromising partner of the European Union (EU), a reliable NATO ally and a good neighbor, a sincere friend, open to all forms of regional cooperation, which make the region safer, better connected and prosperous.
"I believe that today it is clearer than ever that the unification of the European continent is based on the fundamental values of the EU, the only guarantee for our lasting peace, security and well-being. This is what we all owe to our citizens," Ivanovic said.
He stated that membership in the EU remains the main foreign policy goal, to the realization of which the Government and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are sincerely and fully committed.
"We are convinced that by implementing appropriate reforms, on the internal level, as well as with adequate diplomatic activity, on the external level, we can complete the process of European integration within a reasonable time, that is, during the term of office of this government," Ivanović assessed.
He said that during this year, Montenegro was recognizable in multilateral forums for its commitment to preserving peace and security and respect for international humanitarian law.
"With the strong condemnation of terrorist attacks and threats to the security of states and people's lives, the priority of the international community must be the protection of civilians and the provision of humanitarian aid," Ivanović pointed out.
Speaking about good neighborly relations and regional cooperation, he assessed that the progress of one country is a good sign and an incentive for the European path of all others.
"The fact that we share a vision of development based on European values is the common denominator for overcoming all challenges and misunderstandings," Ivanović said.
