Encouraging women to engage in politics is an important step towards creating a society where every woman's voice is heard, said the Vice President of the Assembly Zdenka Popović.

At the signing of the agreement on the formation of the Women's Club of the 28th convocation of the Assembly, she said that today the female MPs say that they will not stop in the fight for justice, equality and dignity of women.

"Women in Montenegro are insufficiently represented in key positions and decision-making positions and even in political parties," Popović believes.

She said that in the new convocation of the parliament, less than 30 percent are female deputies, which, as she assessed, indicates that Montenegro is facing serious democratic challenges.

"It is not a reflection of true partnership and gender equality. Encouraging women's interest in politics is an important step towards creating a society where every woman's voice is heard," said Popović.

She said the Women's Club has an opportunity to become a voice that drives dialogue on key issues that shape the community.

"I believe that we can create a society in which women will be active in politics," said Popović.

The President of the Assembly Andrija Mandić said that the members of the Women's Club have found an additional point where they can unite and jointly establish demands for the Assembly and the Montenegrin public.

"Democratization processes in Montenegro are unstoppable. I see what you are doing today as a big step forward. I congratulate the last convocation that had the strength to start with that action", Mandic said.

Branka Bošnjak, co-president of the Women's Club in the previous parliamentary session, said that they showed seriousness and political maturity, but also tolerance, unity and compactness.

"Strongly and persistently, we rose above our differences and emphasized the things that unite us, working for the welfare of our disordered community and the things that unite us, and there are many more than those that tear us apart," said Bošnjak.

Bosniak said that there is more and more femicide, family violence that spills over into peer violence, legal unwillingness to protect women and the dignity of their lives.

The co-president of the Women's Club in the previous convocation, Vesna Pavićević, said that the strength and unity in that club allow them to prove with planned activities that all MPs lead the fight against violence against women and for the inclusion of women in all decision-making positions.

"And that we will stand up for every woman from the Karst of Montenegro with a humane and solidary attitude. On it, we will trace the path of our women to the European Union. We have to believe in the power of our words. Our words can change the world," said Pavićević.
