Political stability is an important prerequisite for further development, and this is already recognized by the American administration and the economy, which is increasingly showing interest in investing in Montenegro.
This was said by the Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Asia, James O'Brien, during a meeting with Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, as announced by the Cabinet of the Prime Minister.
Spajić is staying in Davos, where he met with O'Brien today on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum. Spajić's office states that the American official welcomed the government's results and said that the US strongly supports Montenegro's efforts to integrate into the European Union.
Spajić introduced the interlocutor to the Government's plans for the further development of Montenegro, with a special emphasis on energy and infrastructure. He pointed out that the Government will try to create the conditions for launching capital projects in these areas in a short period of time, which, as he said, will have effects on strengthening the economy and the overall standard of citizens. "We entered politics to change things for the better. We want Montenegro to develop and to see the results of that work soon. In this regard, we need the support of our international partners, especially the USA", said the Prime Minister.
As it was announced, O'Brien pointed out that "the very good results of the Government in terms of internal stability also affect the obvious intensification of European integration". The organization of the Census is an exceptional example of political maturation and the existence of democratic capacities - it is a model of how to approach a number of important issues, said O'Brien, as stated in the announcement.
He also said that membership in NATO is an advantage of Montenegro and a kind of security guarantee, "which is important both for citizens and investors".
The interlocutors exchanged opinions on the situation in the region and assessed that Montenegro, as a member state of NATO and a country leading the way to membership in the European Union, remains an important factor of stability, and that infrastructural connection is strategically important for the development perspective of the Western Balkans.
At the meeting, it was assessed that Spajić's visit to Washington will be a good opportunity to intensify contacts at the highest level, especially in the direction of concretizing cooperation on projects of mutual interest, the announcement concludes.
