Member of the Assembly of the Capital City, Nemanja Baošoić, announced today that he has made a decision to resign from the Democratic People's Party (DNP) of Montenegro and added that he continues his political engagement by performing the function of an independent councilor.
He added that he informed DNP President Milan Knežević about this, as well as the resignations from the position of president of the Youth Club in the Municipal Committee in Podgorica.
"I am making the above-mentioned decision due to inconsistencies in the political views and decisions of the party leadership in the past period," Baošić stated in the announcement.
The DNP called on Baošić to return his councilor mandate.
"The Democratic People's Party calls on Nemanja Baošić to return the councilor mandate to the party from whose list he became a councilor, undeservedly, due to certain resignations due to incompatibility of positions, and unfortunately also the death of an honest man, Branko Đurović," the DNP press release points out.
From that party, they added that Baošić was not the president of the young DNP, nor was he a member of the Municipal Board, whose formation, they added, is yet to come.
"The only position he held was that of a councilor, which he is trying to alienate from the party and transfer to the side of the opposition and DPS. He has not appeared in the party since the party congress that was held on December 23, which best says where to look for the real reasons for such an act "The stated reasons for the resignation at this moment are so shallow and unsustainable, and at the same time they have never been presented to any party body, that everything points to the suspicion that it is classic political corruption that should be investigated by the prosecutor's office," the DNP statement reads.
From that party they also said that "it is indicative that Baošić decided to take this sudden, unprovoked step, at the moment when the chairman of the Democratic People's Party marked Dragan Bokan as the main brakeman in the demarcation between Zeta and Podgorica, and at a moment when an agreement between Zeta and Podgorica to settle disputed issues by arbitration".
"Attacks on Milan Knežević due to his insistence on a fair and legal demarcation between Zeta and Podgorica will continue, but what is certain is that neither he nor anyone from the party leadership will give in to their principled positions, and that they cannot influence any tycoon or businessman. At the first next meeting, we will inform the coalition partners that the only acceptable thing for us is for Baošić to return the councilor's mandate, and that otherwise, with the alienated mandate, he can only be a partner of the Democratic Party of Socialists, and by no means part of the ruling majority.
"Milan Knežević and the Democratic People's Party are ready to switch to the opposition, but betraying principles and given words has never been, and will never be, an option for us," the DNP statement concludes.
