Vice-president of the Social Democrats (SD) and president of that party's caucus in the Parliament of Montenegro, Boris Mugoša, said that he has become a member of the Committee for Gender Equality and Prevention of Discrimination, a permanent working body of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PSSE).
He specified that there is still a lot of work waiting for them in those areas.
Mugoša participated in the January session of the PSSE in Strasbourg, where the new president of the Parliamentary Assembly was elected; the new Commissioner of the Council of Europe for Human Rights and several judges of the European Court of Human Rights.
As stated by the SD in Strasbourg, his mandate as a member of the PSSE was verified.
"This is the oldest pan-European organization founded in 1949. The goal of this organization is to promote democracy, protection of human rights and the rule of law," they said.
They clarified that Mugoša also became a member of the political group of socialists, democrats and greens in PSSE, where, as they stated, he participated in several of their meetings.
"The main topics of this January session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe were related to the protection of human rights, bearing in mind the current war conflicts in Ukraine and the Middle East with clear appeals for the cessation of hostilities; the phenomenon of globalization in times of crisis and armed conflicts; allegations of systemic torture and inhumane treatment in places of detention in Europe, as well as issues of media freedom and safety of journalists," they concluded.
