Uncompromising fight against corruption, on the strategic, legislative and operational level, is the priority of the 44th Government, it was said at the meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister for the Political System, Justice and Anti-Corruption, Momo Koprivica, with representatives of the Council of Europe (CoE).

Koprivica, as announced by his cabinet, met with the head of the SE Program Office, Lejla Dervišagić, and the coordinator of the SE project to combat economic crime, Marina Mićunović.

He stated that his cabinet is preparing a new decision on the formation of the National Council for the fight against corruption, which will be adopted by the Government, and whose focus, among other things, will be the preparation of a strategy for the fight against corruption.

With this, the cabinet, as Koprivica emphasized, expresses its commitment to an uncompromising fight against corruption on a strategic, legislative and operational level, which is also a priority of the 44th Government.

"Also, in order to achieve justice and create an encouraging environment, the capacities of institutions in the fight against all types of crime, and above all economic crime, which in the previous period undermined the foundations of the legal system and the market economy, will be strengthened to the maximum," the announcement says.

It is stated that the meeting also discussed improvement in the field of games of chance and that, in that part, SE offered support.

Koprivica thanked and emphasized the importance of providing expertise in the reform of the legal system.

"The interlocutors exchanged opinions and information about the obligations that lie ahead in the coming period and agreed that at this moment it is crucial to intensify cooperation with SE, as an important partner of the Government of Montenegro in order to improve the situation in the reform areas," the announcement says.

They stated that they were pleased with the opportunity to discuss a number of important issues.

Special attention, as they said from the Koprivica cabinet, was devoted to projects that SE has been implementing since 2016 in cooperation with the EU, within the framework of the joint initiative - the Horizontal Program for the Western Balkans and Turkey.

Dervišagić pointed out that the program is implemented on the basis of partnership with institutions for the beneficiaries of individual projects and that it provides support in order to improve the strategic and legislative framework, as well as to strengthen the capacities of competent authorities.

At the meeting, it was particularly emphasized that the Project for the fight against economic crime in Montenegro has established a long-term framework for supporting Montenegrin institutions for the fight against corruption in the coming period, in accordance with the Government's priorities.
