The Europe Now Movement (PES) did not consider cooperation with the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) after their internal party elections and the Minister of Justice Andrej Milović je Danijelo Živković congratulated the election for the president of DPS on his behalf.
This is what a source from the top of PES told "Vijesti" unofficially, while Democratic Montenegro says that "one man, official or minister" does not make one party and that Milović's congratulation does not mean that PES plans to cooperate with DPS.
The interlocutor from the top of PES says that the Prime Minister's Government Milojko Spajić it has stable support within the coalition agreement, and together with the parliamentary majority and part of the opposition, successfully implements the set goals and the EU agenda.
"I believe that Milović's congratulation to Živković was given on his behalf, as a sporting gesture, which was also given with a call for the DPS to support the government's policies in the area of the rule of law, which has not been the case so far," he said.
Milović congratulated Živković on the X social network, where he wrote that he is convinced that Živković will bring new value to Montenegrin politics, directing the DPS towards constructive policies for the benefit of all Montenegrin citizens.
"New generations, freed from the burden of the past, must work together to reconcile Montenegro and build a prosperous future, because cooperation is the key to the stability and progress of our country. Together, as a new generation of politicians, we must lead Montenegro forward towards the EU and build a better, more peaceful and fairer society", said Milović.
He did not answer the questions of "Vijesti" what the congratulation to Živković means, whether it is a hint of cooperation and whether it is possible to cooperate with the current DPS.
The leader of PES and the Prime Minister said immediately after last year's elections, on the evening of June 11, that he would not join a coalition with DPS, nor with GP URA.
During the months-long formation of the government, it was speculated that there were talks about the entry of the DPS into the Spajić government or the minority support of that party to the government, but this information was never confirmed. From the part of the opposition, there are occasional accusations that after the elections, DPS personnel are left behind or reappointed "in depth". PES claims that officials are appointed based on expertise and knowledge and not along party lines.
DPS did not answer the questions of "Vijesti" about how they see Milović's congratulatory message and whether it foreshadows cooperation with PES. Those questions were not answered even by the New Serbian Democracy (NSD), which forms the government with PES.
On Sunday, the membership of DPS elected Živković as the president of that party, a Aleksandr Vuković Kuč, Abaz Dizdarević, Ivan Vuković i Jevta Erakovic for vice presidents. Živković has been the acting head of DPS since April last year, after his resignation Milo Đukanović and was the only candidate for party president, while the new face in the innermost leadership is Vuković Kuč, who replaced Sanja Damjanović, who resigned at the end of last year.
Spokesman for the Democrats Mitar Paunović answered the question of "Vijesti" how they view the fact that the minister from PES congratulated Živković on his election as president of DPS, said that it is essential to respect the autonomy and internal decisions of every political subject and every individual.
"In politics, even one congratulatory message like this can cause a wave of speculation. But that does not mean that PES plans to cooperate with DPS, because one person, an official or a minister, whatever he wants, does not make one party", he said.
As he added, if you look back, PES MPs and numerous party and public officials avoided any cooperation with DPS.
"So, while this gesture may arouse curiosity, I would not immediately declare it a signal of some new political strategy," said Paunović.
When asked why the Democrats did not congratulate Živković on his election as president, he answered that "distance is a clearer message than congratulations".
"We want to return to decision-making politics"
"This is a new challenge in my life... We want to return to decision-making politics," Zivkovic said on Sunday evening after the party elections.
When asked by "Vijesti" how the policy of the new leadership will differ from the policy of the DPS under Đukanović, Živković replied that the party "clearly and firmly stands on the foundations of civil society, multinational politics, politics that provided a Euro-Atlantic perspective for Montenegro Burning".

"As for those program goals, there is nothing much to change, because we have established what is the basic platform in Montenegro. And as for the way of political action in the coming period, it will be different because we are in the opposition. From the opposition, we will program what is our vision of the future development of the state system in various areas. The key thing is that we will be even more dedicated to field work, visiting municipal organizations and even more dedicated to the problems of citizens", he said.
Živković is the fourth leader in the history of that party, after Momir Bulatović, Milica Pejanović Đurišić and Milo Đukanović.
