Recent successes in the field of unblocking the judiciary and institutions of the system should serve as an incentive for Montenegro not to miss the chance that is in front of it, said the head of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Vladimir Gjorgjiev.
In a conversation with the Deputy Prime Minister for Security, Internal Policy, European and Foreign Affairs, Aleks Bečić, he said that international partners recognize and appreciate the maturity that the new government shows at the beginning of its mandate.
As announced by the office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Gjorgjiev highlighted a series of decisions made with broad consensus in the parliament as a sign of the maturity of society and institutions, and confirmation of social stability and cohesion.
"Recent successes in the field of unblocking the judiciary and institutions of the system should serve as an incentive not to miss the chance that is in front of you," said Gjorgjiev.
Bečić pointed out that the appointments to the judiciary, the strengthening of the judicial and prosecutorial system and the return of the functionality of the institutions are the key internal incentives for the integration path of Montenegro.
"If there is enough wisdom, dedication and perseverance on the path to reform of all factors and actors in our society, I see the year 2028 as a very real possibility for our entry into the European Union (EU)," said Bečić.
Bečić's cabinet said that the interlocutors expressed satisfaction with the cooperation so far, especially emphasizing Montenegro's involvement in programs to support the development of the institutional and legislative framework in the area of asylum, migration and the visa regime.
Bečić indicated that there are plans to amend the Law on Aliens that will improve the procedure for determining the status of stateless persons.
He, as stated, emphasized the Government's support for the socio-economic progress of migrants, particularly emphasizing their education, health and social protection.
"By ensuring health care, access to data for children's enrollment in schools and preschool institutions, as well as work with the issuance of a work book, we provide comprehensive support to persons from Ukraine under temporary protection," emphasized Bečić.
Gjorgjiev emphasized that regional cooperation in combating illegal migration and crime is a key component of greater security in the Western Balkans and beyond.
He, as reported, praised the efforts of the Ministry of the Interior to establish a system for electronic identification and registration of migrants linked to EURODAC, in order to improve the exchange of information with the region and the EU.
