Ambassador of New Zealand Jacqueline Ann Frizell announced her support for Montenegro, which previously put forward a candidacy for a non-permanent member of the Security Council of the United Nations, announced the cabinet of the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.
Milatović received letters of credence from the newly appointed, extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassadors of New Zealand and Cyprus - Jacqueline Anne Frizell and Andreas Fotiou.
In separate talks with the ambassadors at the Residence in Cetinje, Milatović wished them a welcome to Montenegro and a successful performance of their diplomatic mission, expressing his belief that during his mandate he would make an additional contribution to the improvement of interstate relations.
Milatović, in a conversation with the ambassador of New Zealand, pointed out that Montenegro values the friendship and ties we are building with New Zealand, which is based on the common values of multilateralism, global peace and security.
He emphasized New Zealand's contribution as a reliable NATO partner that significantly contributes to security in the Indo-Pacific.
"He reminded the ambassador that Montenegro has put forward a candidacy for a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, for the period 2026-2027, which announced New Zealand's support for our country," announced Milatović's cabinet.
The interlocutors emphasized the importance of further strengthening bilateral relations, and a special part of the conversation was dedicated to strengthening cooperation in the field of economy and tourism.
During the meeting with the ambassador of Cyprus, excellent interstate relations were noted, which have the potential for further development in areas of mutual interest.
The President recalled the recent meeting with the President of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, during his visit to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, and expressed his special gratitude to Cyprus for supporting Montenegro's European path.
"He emphasized the importance of further strengthening the contractual base and strengthening interstate cooperation through the intensification of political dialogue, and the upcoming visit of the President of Montenegro to the Republic of Cyprus, at the invitation of the President of Cyprus Nikos Christodoulides, will be an added incentive to that," the statement said.
Milatović introduced the ambassadors to the foreign policy priorities, which are based on the aspirations for Montenegro to become the 2028th member of the European Union in 28, to strengthen its credibility as a NATO member, to further improve good-neighborly cooperation, as well as its position in multilateral frameworks.
