The formation of the National Council for the fight against corruption is nearing the end, said the Deputy Prime Minister for the Political System, Justice and Anti-corruption, Momo Koprivica, and said that it is important to speed up the drafting of judicial and anti-corruption regulations.

Koprivica, as announced by his cabinet, met with the delegation of the International Republican Institute in Montenegro (IRI).

He pointed out that the rule of law and European progress are the goals of the 44th Government.

"Koprivica informed the guests that the formation of the National Council for the Fight against Corruption is nearing completion, as well as that his cabinet is undertaking preparatory activities in connection with the drafting of the Draft Strategy for the Fight against Corruption, which, among other things, is also important from the aspect of obligations from Chapter 23 ", says the statement.

It is stated that Koprivica expressed his willingness to cooperate with IRI in the fight against corruption.

He said that it is very important to speed up the development of judicial and anti-corruption regulations and, with the opinion of the European Commission (EC) and the Venice Commission, to obtain quality documents as soon as possible.

Borislav Spasojević, program director of IRI, congratulated the Government on the entire work so far and introduced Koprivica to IRI's work in Montenegro.

He pointed out that the fight against corruption is precisely one of the areas that will be covered by the Regional Program, and that Montenegro can count on support in that area.

Member of the IRI working group for the Western Balkans, Zlatko Vujović, said that the recommendation is to use an inclusive approach in the development of the Strategy for the fight against corruption.

He said that it is necessary to include the non-governmental sector in the development of the Strategy for the fight against corruption, as well as in the development of amendments to the Law on the Prevention of Corruption.

Vujović, as reported, expressed his readiness to help in the preparation of those documents.

It is stated that the interlocutors agreed on the success achieved by the Government in the appointment of the Supreme State Prosecutor, members of the Judicial Council and the remaining judge of the Constitutional Court.

They agreed that when drafting regulations and strategic documents, it is necessary to respect the recommendations and opinions of the EC and the Council of Europe.

"Also, an agreement was reached that it is necessary to elect the Council of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption as soon as possible, which is one of the priorities in obtaining temporary benchmarks for Negotiating Chapter 23 - Justice, Freedom and Security", the announcement says.

In addition to Spasojević and Vujović, the IRI delegation also included Nenad Koprivica.
