Due to the decisive and quick results of the new parliamentary majority and the Government, Montenegro has strengthened its position as a leader in European integrations, it was announced at the meeting of the committee within the Parliamentary Assembly (PA) of NATO.
Duško Stjepović and Miodrag Laković, head and member of the Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro to the NATO Security Council, participated in the joint meeting of several committees within the NATO Security Council, which was held from Monday to today in Brussels.
As reported by the Assembly, Stjepović attended a meeting with permanent representatives of the North Atlantic Council at the NATO headquarters, which was attended by members of the Swedish delegation, the Bureau, chairmen of the committees, as well as delegations from the United States of America and Canada.
It is stated that during the second day of the meeting, the president of the PS NATO, Mihal Šerba, spoke, as well as the permanent representative of Belgium in the Alliance, Arian Petridis.
It is added that a panel was organized on the topic "NATO's View of Strategies for the South", during which current events, potential challenges and dangers were pointed out in the context of security-related events in the South, with special reference to the issue of finding effective solutions in terms of global security. .
The Assembly said that the most important and unavoidable topic for the Montenegrin delegation in light of Russia's aggression against Ukraine was "European Union (EU) - Neighborhood and enlargement policy: an updated view".
As they said, during the dialogue, the importance of continuous and strong support and encouragement of the EU enlargement policy was pointed out, in accordance with the standards and principles that aim to ensure a better future for all members of the European community on a wide range of issues of vital importance.
"In the context of the issue of EU enlargement and the progress of individual countries, it was pointed out that Montenegro, due to the decisive and quick results of the new parliamentary majority and the new government, has definitely strengthened its position as a leader in EU integration," the statement said.
It is stated that the representatives of the community of European states are very enthusiastic about the faster approach of Montenegro to the EU.
"The participants of the meetings emphasized that they expect the candidate countries for EU membership to maintain their full commitment to respect for democracy, fundamental rights and values, as well as the rule of law on an overall level, which is in the interest of all their citizens," the statement added.
The credibility of those obligations, as stated, depends on the meaningful implementation of the necessary reforms and the achievement of results supported by clear and consistent application of the law.
The Assembly said that during the meeting, special attention was drawn to the topic "Military priorities of NATO", where the president of the Military Board of that international organization, Rob Bauer, addressed the meeting participants.
In that part of the meeting, they discussed NATO's missile and anti-aircraft protection, the latest technological solutions for the operation of the NATO Air Force, current challenges in the context of the presented issue, as well as issues of potential threats to security on the global level.
The Assembly said that the joint meeting of the PS NATO committee is reserved for delegations of member states of the North Atlantic Alliance, which represents an opportunity for participants to develop a dialogue with representatives of NATO and other organizations based in Belgium, on current topics in the field of security and defense.
