In the previous period, Montenegro was under the influence of authoritative regimes of third parties, which dictated the institutional and political course in Montenegro, said the Secretary General of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Aleksandar Bogdanović, who participated in the Council of the Socialist International in Madrid.
According to the DPS, Bogdanović spoke on the topic of challenges in preserving international peace, within which he "made a special focus on current processes in the Western Balkans and Montenegro."
"In front of numerous representatives and delegates of the Council of the Socialist International, chaired by Pedro Sánchez, President of the SI and Spanish Prime Minister, Bogdanović informed about the circumstances in the region, and in Montenegro, which in the previous period was under the influence of authoritative regimes of third parties that dictated institutional and the political course in Montenegro", states DPS.
Bogdanović added that in the previous period the DPS acted as a "state-responsible opposition, defending from an enviable position the values and achievements of modern Montenegro", and pointed to the "importance of continued attention of international partners, especially in the context of geopolitical turmoil".
"Today, we are all witnesses that Putin's strategy is to destabilize the process of Europeanization of the Western Balakan, among other things through fake news, disinformation and influencing the electoral processes through the financing of his proxies. We all have to be careful because of that, and the issue of the European perspective of the Western Balkan countries must be in the focus of all actors," Bogdanović assessed.
He added that parties that inherit social democratic values must "remain determined in the defense of civil, inclusive, multi-ethnic and European democracy".
On the sidelines of the Council, in separate meetings, Bogdanović spoke with President Pedro Sánchez, SI Honorary President Eero Heinaluoma, International Secretary of the Socialist Party of Portugal and Vice President of the Party of European Socialists Francisco Andre, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo Lisa Gasi, as well as the President of the Party of European Social Democrats Moldavia Jan Sulon.
