The General Secretary of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Aleksandar Bogdanović announced the elections for the leaders of the municipalities and committees of that party in Podgorica and Cetinje.

"As previously announced, internal party elections in the Democratic Party of Socialists are continuing. After the election of the president and vice-president of the party, the elections for the leaders of the municipalities and committees of the Capital City and the Capital are ahead of us. Then we are waiting for the municipal election conferences, the Congress of the Youth Council, and finally the big party Congress, where we will elect a new Main Committee, where we will also decide on the new Statute and Program of the party", said Bogdanović.

He said that when it comes to the "continuation of the reform" at the local level, the election of the president of the board is expected first, and on that occasion he invited everyone who believes that they could lead the DPS at the local level, "who have ideas and who see themselves as part of the reform process " – to run for office.

"Candidates for presidents can be submitted until March 15. All those who have continuously been members of the party during the last three years, who have their residence in the area of the municipality for which they are running, but also have the support of the membership, have the right to be candidates. In the case of Podgorica and Nikšić, the candidate must be supported by at least three percent of the registered members from those cities, and in Cetinje and in other municipalities at least five percent", explained Bogdanović.

He pointed out that, as in the case of the recently concluded intra-party elections in the DPS at the state level, after the confirmation of the candidacies, a campaign will follow, during which all contenders for the post of president will visit local committees and present their visions and programs.

"The elections themselves will be held in the following way: on April 6, voting will be held for the election of presidents of municipal committees in the northern region, on April 7, elections for presidents of municipal committees will follow in the southern region, and on April 13, for the election of leadership in the central region. Elections will not be held in Bar, Petnjica, Plav and Šavnik, due to the achieved good election results, and the Main Board, on the proposal of the Presidency, will determine the date of immediate elections in these municipal organizations", said the General Secretary of DPS.

He also explained how it is possible to check who all will have the right to vote in those elections.

"All members from the records of municipal boards will have the right to vote. The ways in which members will be able to check whether they have the right to vote are presented in more detail on the website of the Democratic Party of Socialists, and this information is also available by contacting the parent municipal committees," said Bogdanović.

He announced further activities that are expected in DPS.

"After the elections, a number of other activities await us - first we will have municipal election conferences. And after all that, there will be the finalization of reform processes within the party - by organizing two congresses, which will give us an additional refreshed party structure, new party acts, and all with the aim of further strengthening the Democratic Party of Socialists. Because the fact that we are still the strongest political entity in Montenegro, but also that we see that our competition is falling from day to day, does not mean that we should stop. On the contrary. Reforms in the Democratic Party of Socialists will gain additional momentum in the coming weeks and months," concluded Aleksandar Bogdanović.
