I am obliged to clearly and unequivocally emphasize that the members of the Army of Montenegro will not participate in the military conflict in Ukraine, announced the Minister of Defense Dragan Krapović.
He reacted to the claims of the leader of the Democratic People's Party (DNP) and member of the Parliament of Montenegro, Milan Knežević, who said that it was announced that the Army of Montenegro would be in Ukraine by the beginning of May.
"For the purpose of objectively informing the public and denying untrue claims that have been made by MP Milan Knežević in recent days, I am obliged to clearly and unequivocally emphasize that members of the Montenegrin Army will not participate in the war in Ukraine," Krapović said in a statement.
Krapović pointed out that the Ministry of Defense, nor he as Minister of Defense, at any time did not come out with information that Montenegrin soldiers would be sent to Ukraine, nor was that option ever current.
"So we strongly deny the incorrect allegations that the members of the VCG could be at the front in Ukraine at the end of May 2024 or at any other date. Also, I want to repeat once again that I would neither ever propose nor support a decision on a potential deployment members of the Ukrainian Armed Forces to Ukraine. For the sake of clarification, for this type of engagement there is a procedure according to which the Minister of Defense proposes to the Council for Defense and Security, and the Council, after consideration, submits the decision on the referral to the Parliament for decision-making. And this cannot happen while I am the head of this department ", the announcement states.
"I appeal to MPs, the media and politicians to avoid any kind of speculation when it comes to such serious topics. All relevant information that may be of interest to the public can be obtained from the Ministry of Defense," concluded Krapović.
