The key challenge for Montenegro in the coming period will be how to ensure progress on the way to the European Union, is the joint assessment from the meeting of the President of the Club of Deputies of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Andrije Nikolić with the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Montenegro Don McCann in the Parliament.

In the conversation with McCann, Nikolić announced that the current socio-political circumstances point to the conclusion that the parliamentary majority is not unified and that a significant number of its constituents "have no interest in this government being successful", which, he said, speaks volumes about the "capacity deficit of the current authorities to join the country to the European Union".

"Recalling that during the last year, a worrying drop in support for NATO membership was recorded in Montenegro, Nikolić pointed out that the effects of anti-Western propaganda in Montenegro are at their historical maximum, but that what is more worrying is the absence of a credible reaction of the state government, which is as he said, she herself is divided on that issue," said the DPS.

Ambassador McCann said that the United Kingdom wants to see Montenegro continue democratic reforms and progress on the way to the European Union.

"In addition to the dynamics of internal political processes, the interlocutors also exchanged views on regional and international challenges, concluding that it is necessary for all pro-Western forces from the government and from the opposition to contribute to the political stability of Montenegro and its European perspective," the announcement concludes.
