The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) announced that with the vote of MP Maja Vukićević of the Democratic People's Party (DNP) against the recommendation that Kosovo be admitted to the Council of Europe, "state policy has become formally anti-European."
"Today's ranking of Montenegro, on the opposite side of all other European countries, in the vote on the question of Kosovo's membership in the Council of Europe, shows that state policy has formally become anti-European. Maja Vukićević voted today at the Committee for Political Affairs and Democracy of the Parliamentary Assembly according to the instructions of Milan Knežević and not according to what is the strategic orientation of Montenegro. The state leadership led by Milojko Spajić, blackmailed by the support of Knežević's and Mandić's parties, does not dare to react to a single move of these two, which tends to obstruct Montenegro in the process of European integration", it was announced from the DPS.
They add that the policy of the leaders of the former DF towards Montenegro's membership in the EU is "the same as the one recently announced by the Russian ambassador to Montenegro when he threatened that Russia would confront the countries of the Western Balkans if they became members of the EU".
"Today's vote by the representative of Montenegro, and the absence of any reaction from the Government and other political entities that are in coalition with the Democratic People's Party, clearly shows that this parliamentary majority has only one strategic goal, which is to stay in power as long as possible, at any price, including that Montenegro never becomes a member of the European Union," the DPS statement concludes.
