The Law on the Voter List and the Law on the Financing of Political Entities and Election Campaigns must be urgently amended in order to prevent various abuses that we had in previous election cycles, announced the Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Zdenka Popović.
It was announced from the Assembly that Popović met with the head of the Mission of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) Dominik Vag, and program manager Bernd Burvitz.
"The Assembly of Montenegro in this convocation is very transparent, and as such has fulfilled all the instructions of the European Commission, starting with the appointment to the judiciary, the ratification of the Berlin Process agreement, the re-establishment of the Women's Club, the holding of the Women's and Roma Parliament, and the digitization of the Plenary hall," Popović pointed out.
She announced that the plan is to hold the Rural Parliament.
"We are planning to organize a donor evening with the International Women's Club, where the collected funds will go to centers for people with autism, disabilities and special educational needs," said Popović.
Vag announced that the main goals of the OSCE mission are to strengthen legal regulations, train professional services of parliamentary committees, build professional capacities and gender-responsive budgeting, and that she strongly supports efforts related to strengthening transparency, digitalization and gender equality.
Popović said that as a long-time member of the Committee for Economy, Finance and Budget, she followed matters related to gender-responsive budgeting, and that she saw that the main problem is implementation, not just the adoption of gender-responsive laws, and that we must work on improving that segment. .
"We are also fighting to increase the representation of women both at the local and state level. That is why it is crucial for us to respect and introduce quotas," added Popović.
Referring to the work of the Committee for Comprehensive Electoral Reform, Popović pointed out that the Law on Voter List and the Law on Financing of Political Entities and Election Campaigns must be amended urgently in order to prevent various abuses that we had in previous election cycles.
"We have close cooperation with the ODIHR and I will remind you of the willingness of the Office to provide the necessary technical and legal assistance. You have our full support in the fight for gender equality," Vag concluded.
