The Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, said today that Serbia wants to continue fruitful cooperation with Montenegro and that all open issues of the two countries should be resolved through joint dialogue, in a mutually acceptable manner.
In a conversation with Prime Minister Duško Marković, on the sidelines of the American-Adriatic Charter Summit (A5) in Podgorica, Brnabić said that, when it comes to the process of European integration, cooperation with Montenegro is very positive, according to a statement from the Prime Minister's office.
The Prime Minister of Serbia welcomed Montenegro's progress on the path to membership in the European Union and pointed out that the successful path of one country to the EU contributes to bringing the entire region closer to the same goal.
She pointed to the fact that there is a mutual interest in the implementation of joint projects, primarily in the field of traffic and infrastructure, so she discussed with Marković the reconstruction of the Belgrade - Bar railway, the construction of the Belgrade - Bar highway and other projects.
One of the common topics was cooperation in the field of tourism, information technology and agriculture.
The prime ministers of the two countries also discussed the issue of the position of Serbs in Montenegro, to which Brnabić emphasized that she expects respect for the rights of Serbs, their language, identity and cultural heritage.
The Prime Minister of Serbia also referred to the recently held Summit of Western Balkan leaders, held in Trieste on July 12, 2017, and emphasized that the results of that meeting are very important both for the economic and political results.
At the meeting of Prime Minister Marković with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Edi Rama, the possibility of working on the joint valorization of the resources of Lake Skadar was highlighted. Prime Minister Rama was particularly interested in the situation in the border area of Montenegro. In this regard, Marković emphasized the excellent cooperation of the Government with parties that bring together Albanians in Montenegro, the Government of Montenegro announced.
"Prime Minister Marković and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Denis Zvizdić agreed that our country's membership in NATO is good for the entire region, and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, expressed the same assessment. Prime Ministers Zvizdić and Plenković especially emphasized the importance of membership Montenegro in NATO," said the government.
According to them, Marković congratulated the Prime Minister of the Republic of Macedonia, Zoran Zaev, on his election victory and the formation of the Government, saying that our country strongly supports the continuation of Macedonia's European and Euro-Atlantic integration process. Prime Minister Zaev thanked Montenegro for organizing the Adriatic Charter Summit and congratulated Montenegro on NATO membership. "We look forward to your every success," said Prime Minister Zaev to the Prime Minister of Montenegro.
The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Hashim Tači, pointed out that there are no open issues between the two neighboring and friendly countries and assessed that the relations are developing well and to the benefit of the citizens of both Montenegro and Kosovo. Presidents Marković and Tači particularly emphasized friendship and partnership in difficult situations in the past, stressing that this is a pledge for good and meaningful current and future relations.
