We witness every day that in Nikšić, those who try to silence the free thought of politicians, intellectuals and journalists are sitting in decision-making positions, and now they have added the ban on art and the suppression of voices in the fight against violence against women to their opus of activity, announced the secretary for international cooperation of the Youth Council. DPS of Montenegro Kristina Šćepanović.
She reacted to the statement of the artistic director of the Nikšić Theater, Janko Jelic, who announced that the topic of women's disenfranchisement is "worn out", and that he thinks that "women discriminate".
"The statement of the artistic director of the Nikšić Theater Janko Jelic is scandalous, with which the person in question relativized violence against women, which, unfortunately, is the reality of many women in Montenegro, which is supported by devastating statistics," Šćepanović added.
According to her, with this shameful speech in which he pointed out that violence against women is a worn-out topic and that women are the ones who discriminate, "but also by banning the play that aims to make the audience aware of the importance of the fight against violence, Jelić showed that unworthy of the office he holds."
She emphasized that, as she said, Jelić had brought down the reputation of the institution in whose framework he "enjoyed performing the function of artistic director, while apparently, due to his own limitations, inflexibility and primitivism, he does not know that the meaning of artistic expression is actually to represent the voice of those whose voice for some reason does not resonate."
"Ultimately, we have witnessed the silence of Nikšić's rulers many times, we do not expect any special reactions even on the occasion of this shaming of Nikšić's theater by an individual, for whose appointment they are responsible. It is clear as day that all this is part of their ideological package, and we have known for a long time with whom we are dealing," Šćepanović concluded
