President Jakov Milatović is staying in Vilnius, where he is participating in the ninth Summit of the Three Seas Initiative at the invitation of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda. This is the first participation of Montenegro in this event, which has been regularly held at the presidential level since its inception.
Milatović, it was announced from the office of the president of the state, pointed out that the vision of the Three Seas Initiative, which includes strengthening connectivity, promoting economic development, strengthening the region's energy security and cyber security, fully coincides with the goals of Montenegro in the context of the European integration process.
"He emphasized that the Initiative gives added value to Montenegro's cooperation with the EU, through the implementation of regional infrastructure projects, better connectivity with the rest of Europe, as well as through the acceleration of the green and digital transition. He pointed out that our country is dedicated to fulfilling the remaining criteria from the negotiation chapters, and reminded that Montenegro, as a member of NATO and a leader in the process of European integration, strives to be a full member of the EU by 2028," the announcement reads.
Milatović concluded that Montenegro has a multiple interest in becoming an associate partner of the Three Seas Initiative and expressed the expectation that this will be formalized at the Summit in Poland next year.
The Three Seas Initiative includes 13 member states of the European Union. The Initiative's strategic partners are the USA, the European Commission, Germany, and from this year, Japan.
In addition to the associated countries of Ukraine and Moldova, this year's Summit was also attended by guests of honor - delegations from Montenegro, Israel, Turkey, Finland, the United Kingdom and Spain.
