The process initiated by the Special State Prosecutor's Office against Zoran Lazović and Milivoj Katnić is politically motivated, as evidenced by the political and media atmosphere in which it is being carried out, said Miloš Nikolić, spokesman for the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS).
"The arrest of Katnić represents revenge for preventing a coup d'état in Montenegro in 2016, and this is confirmed by the statements of the former leaders of the DF. It is clear to everyone that the next step is the annulment of the court process that was conducted for the attempted coup d'état, which was yesterday indirectly and requested by one of the leaders of the former DF, accused in that procedure," said Nikolić.
According to him, this conclusion is indicated by the fact that the arrest of the mentioned persons "was vindictively announced by the leaders of the former DF ahead of the change of government on August 30, and that for years they have been listening to announcements and drawing targets from political and security circles who have tried to use thousands of commissioned texts to discredit persons who have worked for decades in the judicial and security sectors."
He said that SDT's lack of action in relation to Sky correspondence of members of the Skaljar clan is also indicative.
"Which points to the connections of this clan with individuals from the new government, which we read about when they announced in August 2020 that after the change of government, Lazović and Katnić would either be liquidated or arrested on the orders of the heads of Škaljarac. The obvious intention to illegally and revengefully Put Katnić and Lazović in prison at any cost, it also demonstrates the pressure exerted on the High Court through the media and political circles in order to order their detention, even though there is no legal basis for this, since there is no possibility of repeating the criminal act, nor impact on witnesses, as well as the possibility of escape," said Nikolić.
He said that it is a fact that those accused of a coup d'état are in power.
"The fact that the stability of the Government depends on them, and that they clearly manage the processes in the country in a key way, casts doubt on the fact that this is a staged process, with clear motives for revenge. We hope that those who participate in it are aware that their every illegal action will be qualified as an obvious abuse of official position," he concluded.
