The doors of the European Union (EU) are open, and Montenegro is in the best position to become the next member, said the special representative of the Union for dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina and other regional issues of the Western Balkans, Miroslav Lajčak.
He discussed with the Minister of Justice, Andrej Milović, the European perspective of Montenegro, reforms and achieved results in that field, as well as the situation in the Western Balkans region.
Lajčak, as reported by the Ministry of Justice, expressed his satisfaction with the department's results so far in chapters 23 and 24.
He assessed that these results clearly indicate that the country is on a very good path towards receiving a positive Report on the fulfillment of temporary benchmarks, which, as stated, will lead it to the final phase of EU membership negotiations.
"The doors of the Union are open, and Montenegro is in the best position to become the next member. It is only important that you continue with this quality work", said Lajčak.
It is crucial, he added, that Montenegro remains stable and focused on its priority goal - EU membership.
Milović, as announced by the Ministry of Justice, emphasized the unwavering commitment of the Government and the Ministry of Justice in fulfilling the obligations from the European agenda and preparations for the final phase of negotiations on membership in the European Union.
Highlighting the achieved results, Milović emphasized that Montenegro represents a positive example, providing an incentive to other candidate countries, especially in the region.
"The enlargement process is once again high among the Union's priorities, and Montenegro, aware of the opportunity presented to us, is determined to complete our part of the work," Milović said.
He added that the Ministry of Justice remains unreservedly committed to further progress and strong cooperation with European partners in achieving common goals.
The Ministry said that it was emphasized during the conversation that Montenegro is traditionally recognized as a reliable partner and a country dedicated to good neighborly relations and regional cooperation.
"And that it will continue to play a constructive role in promoting the policy of good relations and the European future of the entire region," the announcement states.
