Full membership in the European Union (EU) is a priority foreign policy goal of Montenegro, stated the President of the State Jakov Milatović at a meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland, Injac Kasis, the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro announced.
Milatović emphasized that Montenegro is determined to continue with reforms in order to fulfill the obligations from the negotiation process as soon as possible.
Kasis's visit is the first official visit of a Swiss official to Montenegro.
"On that occasion, the President emphasized that Montenegro remains committed to further strengthening relations with Switzerland, as a country that cherishes the centuries-old tradition of European and democratic values. He also pointed to the importance of substantial economic cooperation between the two countries, bearing in mind that Switzerland is among the three largest foreign investors in Montenegro in the previous five years". it is stated in the announcement.
"The Swiss minister expressed satisfaction with the meeting and praised the evident democratic progress of our country in the previous period, and assessed that Montenegro represents an important factor in the stability of the Western Balkans region. During the meeting, mutual interest was also expressed in the further improvement of cooperation in the fields of education, science and tourism. Finally, the Swiss minister conveyed to President Milatović the Swiss president's invitation to participate in the high-level Peace Summit for Ukraine, which will be held next month in Burgenstock and establishing a comprehensive and lasting peace in Ukraine," it concludes.
