Our commitment to reforms and regional cooperation is not only important for membership in the European Union, but also crucial for ensuring the long-term prosperity and stability of our region, said the President of Montenegro Milatović at the meeting of heads of state and government within the Summit of the Cooperation Process in Southeast Europe, which held in Skopje.
On that occasion, he said that the leadership in the process of European integration obliges us to continue fulfilling the criteria for membership in the EU, adding that Montenegro is a positive example for all other countries that see their future under the united roof of Europe.
The president of the country pointed out that at the beginning of his mandate he promoted the agenda for Montenegro in the EU until 2028, and that despite the initial skepticism towards such dynamics, today it is a perspective that Podgorica and Brussels look at with much more optimism, creating joint plans in order to achieve it, announced Milatović's cabinet.
He reminded that in the previous period significant developments had taken place, when it comes to institutional consolidation and legal adaptation of Montenegro to the requirements of EU membership, which will ultimately result in obtaining a positive IBAR.
He emphasized that the good neighborly policy is one of the most important pillars of Montenegrin foreign policy, based on excellent bilateral cooperation with all neighboring countries.
He pointed out that it is important that we resolutely stay on the course of democracy and the rule of law, because that is the only way our societies can fundamentally progress and take advantage of the opportunity arising from the awakened enthusiasm for EU enlargement.
In this sense, he added that EU membership is not only a political goal, but a vision of the future in which our societies are prosperous, safe and connected, institutions are strengthened, and the quality of life of our citizens is at a much higher level.
Finally, Milatović said that the Regional Council for Cooperation remains an initiative of essential importance for achieving our common goals, as a platform within which we can help each other, exchanging experiences and sharing ideas.
