The club of councilors "European Team for Nikšić" has submitted a Proposal for the dismissal of the President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, for causing a feeling of fear and insecurity among the citizens of Nikšić.
"... as a result of delivering a shameful speech in Grahovac in which he called for a confrontation with those who think differently from him and those similar to him and who do not consider them brothers, as well as because of the continuous spread of national and religious hatred," the councilor's statement states European tm for Nikšić.
As they stated, the feeling of fear and threat of the citizens is justified by the quote from Kovačević's address: "And if someone does not want us to be brothers, if someone wants to look more like the Turks, then, by God, in the future we will treat him like we treat the Turks ".
The club of councilors "European Team for Nikšić" has already requested Kovačević's dismissal three times - twice their initiative was not even included in the agenda. This time, they expect that the councilors will vote on their proposal on June 25, when the session of the Municipal Assembly (SO) is scheduled, and that the Democrats and URA will support their initiative, bearing in mind that Kovačević's coalition partners publicly condemned his speech in Grahovac. when the 166th anniversary of the battle in that place was marked. However, the Nikšić Democrats and the URA told "Vijesta" that they have not yet taken a position regarding the initiative on Kovačević's dismissal, that the bodies of their parties will decide on that initiative, and that the public will be informed about it in a timely manner.
"Threats to the citizens of Montenegro from the mouth of Kovačević, and not for the first time, which are characteristic of spokesmen of fascism and instigators of hatred, require immediate resolution of the person in question. That our initiative is justified and has a legal basis is also shown by the reaction of the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, which is against Kovačević formed the subject," says the Initiative on Kovačević's dismissal.
The Club of Councilors "European Team for Nikšić" points out that the condemnation of Kovačević's address came from all relevant addresses in Montenegro, the civil sector, civic activists, the head of the Islamic community, representatives of less numerous peoples in Montenegro, the Turkish embassy in Montenegro, as well as from Kovačević's coalition partners, from whom "deeds, not words, are expected, so that someone unworthy of any public office, and not the first man of the city, which has always been considered a city of intellectuals, people of integrity and dignity, would be removed from the post of president of the municipality of Nikšić , not a city where the president spreads religious and national hatred and calls for terror".
The president of SO Nikšić, Nemanja Vuković, said earlier that Kovačević's statement does not contribute to building tolerance, multinational harmony and the civic concept of Montenegro.
"Everyone in Montenegro should be treated as brothers, regardless of what religion, nation or political party they belong to. He believes that, as public employees, we have a responsibility for what we say in public, but also an obligation to work dedicatedly for reconciliation, a better future and building a state tailored to all citizens. It is an obligation not only to the code of ethics, but also to our Nikšić," said Vuković on the X network.
The URA from Nikšić also spoke out earlier and requested that the president of Nikšić apologize for the controversial statement.
"With his threats, the president of Nikšić Municipality, Marko Kovačević, insulted the Turkish nation and the state in the most primitive way, and sent a direct and unequivocal threat to all others who are not of the same, obviously, nationalist, chauvinist and fascist leanings," the party said.
On the occasion of Kovačević's statement, which, among others, was condemned by both the presidents of the state and the Government, the Higher State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica opened a case, and the President of the Municipality of Nikšić gave a statement to the police two days ago. On that occasion, he told reporters that he maintained his position that he had not insulted or threatened anyone, and that everything else was "constructed by those who have their own goals, which is why they are doing all this."
