The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, said that although he declared them, he remains convinced that the Law on the National Public Broadcaster and the Law on the Judicial Council and Judges contain significant flaws that call into question their compliance with the Constitution, that is, the editorial independence of RTCG.
"I issued decrees on the promulgation of the Law on the National Public Broadcaster - Public Media Service of Montenegro and the Law on Amendments to the Law on the Judicial Council and Judges, which the Parliament of Montenegro re-adopted on June 19, 2024. As is known, both laws I returned the acts to the Parliament of Montenegro after they were initially adopted, for reasons that I clearly communicated to the public on that occasion," Milatović wrote on IX.
He believes that the members of parliament had to take a more thorough look at the remarks.
"I believe that when re-deciding on the aforementioned laws, the honorable members of parliament had to take a more thorough look at the remarks I made, as well as those presented by the expert public, and thus act in a principled and responsible manner towards the proposed solutions. In addition, I am sure that the validity of the reasons will because of which I sent them back to the Assembly for re-decision, to be confirmed in practice very soon," said Milatović.
