The MP of the Europe Now Movement, Dražen Petrić, said that although the President of Montenegro was informed that the adoption of the resolution on the genocide in Jasenovac, Mauthausen and Dachau has nothing to do with the political trafficking of victims, but with the memory of the innocent victims, that "unfortunately, this does not discourage him from agreeing with the opposition renders the adopted resolution meaningless".
Petrić stated in the statement that the resolution does not target any nation, nor does it have "any connection with today's Republic of Croatia, just as it has nothing to do with contemporary Austria or Germany; moreover, it refers to crimes that absolutely no one disputes."
"The thesis that this resolution is a reaction to the recently adopted resolution on Srebrenica in the United Nations is untenable, due to the fact that the Montenegrin parliament has already adopted several resolutions on genocide from the territory of the current and former state. If the adopted resolution is not directed against any people or of the modern state, it is very worrying that the principle of establishing the same attitude and piety towards every victim is ignored and tried to make sense," said Petrić.
The MP of PES added that even though that party does not emphasize issues from the past, they are ready to face anyone when it comes up on the agenda and to condemn every crime without exception with the same attitude.
"This does not mean that we trade politically, but that we are fully prepared to provide full support for the prosecution and conviction of all those who committed war crimes in the name of Montenegro. Only with such an approach can we build a brighter future and show a dignified and principled attitude towards the past." Petrić concluded.
