Živković: Despite all the attacks, we are still the strongest party

The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) is still the strongest party in Montenegro, despite all the attacks, said DPS president Danijel Živković.

It was announced from the DPS that Živković opened the Municipal Electoral Conference at which members of the Beran Committee of that party were elected.

He said that the DPS has been in the opposition in Berane for many years and unfairly out of power, but that it has an extremely strong core of support, which no other party would have been able to do.

Živković thanked the activists there for their dedicated work.

He stated that DPS has been in the opposition for four years at the state level, but that, nevertheless, they managed to preserve relevance and respond to challenges, after 30 years of exercising power.

"Regardless of all real difficulties, which often included revanchism, media, political and judicial persecution, we are still on our feet, as the strongest political entity in Montenegro," said Živković.

According to him, it is precisely for this reason that it is important to elect the right people to key positions in the municipal party bodies.

As Živković pointed out, these are the people who will be the most prominent representatives of their politics in the next four years and who will articulate their interests in a real, credible way.

He stated that DPS is making changes in its politics and party, but not to adapt to anyone, but because, as he said, they are aware that a better and more successful DPS means a better and more successful Montenegro.

"It is known that we started the party reform process and were the first in Montenegro to directly elect the party leadership. In this way, we set a new political standard within one party," said Živković.

He pointed out that, regardless of the turmoil at the state level, it is important for local governments to adequately devote themselves to improving the quality of life of citizens, which is their primary task.

In this sense, as he said, all political subjects are obliged to contribute to the development of local communities.

"Berane is a city that, unfortunately, has an abundance of unused resources, which could be put to the function of a better life for Beranka and the people of Beran," said Živković.

As he emphasized, it is a city that has shown that coexistence of citizens of different religions, nations and political affiliations is possible.

Živković said that, since there is no dispute about it, we should move on to concrete work as soon as possible.

"Berane must additionally take advantage of its rich tourist potential, attract new domestic and foreign investments, implement projects that are particularly related to the improvement of traffic and communal infrastructure", stated Živković.

As he added, these are topics on which there cannot and must not be disagreements.

"In this sense, Živković referred to the state of public finances, reminding that soon the state will be in debt of two billion EUR, but that, unfortunately, this money was not used in an adequate way," the announcement says.

He said that no capital project was realized from that money.

Živković said that, unfortunately, the money was earmarked for fulfilling pre-election promises, increasing salaries and pensions.

He said that DPS wholeheartedly supports the improvement of the standards of all citizens of Montenegro, but that this improvement must be based on realistic and sustainable foundations.

"Because, when we can no longer borrow, you yourself know what scenario awaits us", Živković pointed out.

He stated that the situation is similar in other areas - education and healthcare.

As reported, Živković also referred to the coalition capacity of DPS, recalling that this party in the previous period showed that it was the only one on the Montenegrin political scene that could provide stability.

"That's why we have to work even harder to return to power as soon as possible", said Živković, announcing intensive field work, visits of municipal committees by the party leadership and talks with sympathizers and party members.
