The session of the Municipal Assembly (SO) of Nikšić, where the initiative of the opposition on the dismissal of the President of the Municipality Marko Kovačević will be considered, will be held on Thursday, July 18, TV News has learned.
The opposition led by the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) initiated the dismissal of Kovačević, after he said in a speech during the anniversary of the Battle of Grahovac in mid-June that those who do not want to be like brothers, but look like Turks, will be treated like Turks.
Because of Kovačević's statement, the case was opened by the Podgorica Higher Prosecutor's Office, which is investigating whether there are elements of hate speech, and in addition to the condemnation of the majority of the public, the statement was also condemned by Kovačević's partners in the government from Democratic Montenegro, whose councilors depend on whether the president of the Municipality of Nikšić will be dismissed.
As TV Vijesti learns, the dominant mood in that party is not to support the DPS proposal to dismiss Kovačević, but to wait for the decision of the judicial authorities.
The Civic Movement URA, which is part of the government and has one councilwoman, previously announced that this time they will vote for Kovačević's dismissal, but the decision does not depend on her vote, because the coalitions around the New Serbian Democracy (NSD), where Kovačević comes from, and the Democrats have the majority.
This is the fourth time since May 2021, when he was elected as the president of the Municipality of Nikšić, that the opposition has initiated the dismissal of Kovačević, and so far this request has never been included in the agenda of the Municipality of Nikšić.
