The Europeanization of the Western Balkans is of the greatest importance for the stability and security of the entire European continent, announced João Torres, a member of the Portuguese Socialist Party and vice-president of the Socialist International.
"By encouraging closer integration with Europe, Montenegro can contribute to the achievement of peace, stability and prosperity in the region," Torres pointed out in a statement delivered by the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of Montenegro.
The announcement states that Torres supported the formation of the European Union.
The European Union, which will include the Social Democrats (SD), the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and the Liberal Party (LP), will be officially presented today in Podgorica.

Torres said that social justice, solidarity and equality are the backbone of a progressive, democratic society.
"Coordinated efforts are needed to achieve this social status. As a member of the Portuguese Socialist Party, as well as the vice-president of the Socialist International, I welcome the creation of the European Union as a platform for the gathering of progressive forces with a common goal: strengthening the course of democratic forces in Montenegro," he said. Torres.
He stated that social democracy has long been a driving force for positive change, advocating policies that ensure fair treatment, equal opportunities and a strong support system for all citizens.
"The creation of such a platform is a key step in aligning efforts and amplifying voices dedicated to this common goal - a process that is only possible by building bridges and uniting with political entities of similar political affiliations, as one of the best ways to achieve progress. Moreover, uniting on democratic grounds is key to political success," Torres said.
He said that when it comes to the SDP of Montenegro, they have a long-standing partnership with it, marked by almost three decades of joint membership in the Socialist International.
"We are particularly pleased that the Social Democratic Party is playing a key role in this progressive initiative. Once again, I extend my hearty congratulations to everyone involved in the European Union and wish you every success in your important work. Together we can achieve our common goals and pave the way for a brighter future for Montenegro and Europe as a whole," Torres concluded.
