The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, addressed the members of the House of Representatives of the United States of America with the aim of strengthening the Montenegrin caucus in that body.
He said that the recent visit to the USA indicated the need to intensify cooperation between the two allied countries, with the aim of making Montenegro the primary partner of the United States in the Western Balkans.
"In the coming period, the strengthening of the Montenegrin caucus in Congress is of great importance considering the key role it plays in nurturing and deepening relations between Montenegro and the USA. Your support is not only important for Montenegro, but has the potential to bring benefits that go beyond our bilateral relations. By working together to solve common challenges and promote common goals, such as regional stability, security and prosperity, we can contribute to the progress of the entire Western Balkans region. Therefore, I invite you to consider joining the Montenegrin caucus in order to jointly build more a stronger partnership between Montenegro and the United States," Milatović said in his speech.
He pointed out that during his visit to the USA, he had the opportunity to see that members of Congress from both sides of the political spectrum provide unwavering support for the democratic development of Montenegro and that this bipartisan support emphasizes the strong and lasting bond between the two countries.
"I am especially grateful to the current members of the Montenegrin caucus for their unwavering support for the key foreign policy goals of Montenegro. Their commitment is highly valued and important in the progress of our country. The road ahead requires the unwavering solidarity and cooperation of our friends and partners, as we strive to overcome obstacles and let's achieve our common goals of prosperity, stability and democratic maturity," said Milatović.
He reminded that since the restoration of independence in 2006, Montenegro has made significant progress in its democratic development, remaining firmly committed to membership in the European Union and enhanced security and stability as a member of NATO.
"Our membership emphasizes our strategic importance and willingness to contribute to regional and global stability. We greatly value the partnership we share with the United States of America within this Alliance and remain steadfast in our commitment to its intentions and goals," concluded Milatović.
A caucus is a group of lawmakers within the US House of Representatives who organize themselves to support a particular country, promote relations with that country, and work on issues of common interest.
