The President of the Municipality of Nikšić, Marko Kovačević, assessed that the opposition's initiative for his dismissal was "absurd" and that "we knew how it would go."
"It is not the first time, it is the fourth time that a message has been sent that the local parliamentary majority is stable and that it is probably the most stable in Montenegro in the past four years. It is no wonder that this initiative came precisely at this time when the Government needs to be reconstructed and so it gains additional stability. It is not surprising that the opposition tried to make things unstable or make it appear that the situation in Niksic and Montenegro is unstable. We saw today, specifically in practice, who tries to behave in that way. When we put aside the analysis and taking everything out of context and when we look at the concrete actions of political actors in Nikšić, we can see who actually resorts to violence and such methods. We understand what the opposition is doing and that is why no actions were taken today by the President of the Municipal Assembly, which he had the right to do. We should always show a degree of tolerance for all that, so that a message of stability and tolerance has been sent, and this is how we will act in the future," Kovačević told reporters.
The Nikšić Municipal Assembly did not discuss the proposal for the dismissal of Kovačević today, because the votes of the coalition "For the Future of Nikšić" and the Democrats accepted the request of councilors from the aforementioned coalition to remove that item from the session's agenda.
The initiative for the dismissal of Kovačević was submitted in mid-June by the Club of Councilors "European Team for Nikšić", and in addition to the councilors of the Democratic Party of Socialists, it was also signed by the councilors of the Social Democrats. Councilors from the coalition "European Team for Nikšić" and councilors from the Citizens' Movement URA were against removing the item from the agenda.
The councilors of the "European Team for Nikšić" coalition today came out in front of the SO president's table and prevented the session from taking place, saying that the session will not take place until he allows them to say what they have. Councilors will continue their work on Tuesday.
