The growth plan for the Western Balkans, investments on the one hand and the accession process on the other, will have transformative significance for Montenegro and will be of great benefit to the European Union, as the country progresses on its way to the EU, said the Director General of the European Commission for the Neighborhood and negotiations on the expansion of Hert Jan Kopman, after a meeting with the Government delegation led by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.
"Today and yesterday I had meetings here with representatives of the Government to discuss two key issues. Firstly, yesterday we discussed the new Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, and especially the Reform Agenda of Montenegro, which foresees a very ambitious plan of economic reforms for the coming years, until the end of 2027. We think that this Growth Plan can really stimulate growth in Montenegro, we think that based on it, the country can double its economy in the next decade, and that it will have a transformative role. In fact, it will bring Montenegro to its current position average in the EU member states. It is made up of very significant reforms in the area of the business environment, rule of law, and a very ambitious investment strategy. We will support it to a significant extent," said Kopman in a statement sent to the media .
"Furthermore, today we had a very promising, encouraging conversation about the accession process of the country. After the still fresh success of the implementation of IBAR, the Government and the Commission agreed on how to structure further activities, and I believe that we have come up with a very operational plan for their implementation in the next few 15 years have passed since the last member state joined, and I must say that Montenegro is certainly a leader, and that based on the ambition we witnessed today, we are confident that we can achieve enormous success in the coming months and years," he added.
He said that it will also lead to transformation.
"Yesterday we talked about the Growth Plan, which will result in the Investment Conference next year, where we hope that important agreements will be signed, because investors will be interested in coming to Montenegro if these reforms are really implemented. So, the Plan growth, investments on the one hand and the accession process on the other, will have a transformative significance for the country and let me be very clear - it will be of great benefit to the EU, as the country progresses on its way to the EU," Kopman said.
He said that during these two days they had "a very productive and operational series of meetings".
"The Government was represented by the Prime Minister, the Minister of European Affairs, the Deputy Prime Minister and many other high-ranking officials, including the Minister of Justice. That level of commitment is very important; we have interrupted our vacations to hold these meetings and we have a plan for the coming months and years, so that these were two extremely productive and stimulating days. I thank you," he concluded.
